Maricopa County

This county may be known for the metro lifestyle found in Phoenix, but agriculture is still a strong force. Over 100,000 bales of cotton, 44,000 tons of Durum wheat, 39,000 tons of barley and 610,000 tons of alfalfa are produced here each year. In addition, Maricopa County is known for producing head lettuce, leaf lettuce, romaine, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, carrots, honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon, potatoes and cabbage. In addition, lemons, oranges, grapefruit and tangerines make citrus a large contributor to agriculture. More than 245,000 cattle and calves as well as 12,000 sheep and lambs live inside this mighty county. Each year, the state fair is held Phoenix during the month of October. You can catch the county fair each April, also in Phoenix. Agriculture is worth $792,307,000 each year to this county.
