Overnight strength. Outside markets continue to influence overnight trade in ag futures. The dollar was under pressure again overnight and that put support under grain and soybean futures. Soybean futures were 14 to 15 cents higher, Chicago wheat 5 to 10 cents higher and corn futures around 3 cents higher in overnight trade.
It's time for votes. Monday was rhetoric day in the Senate for the farm bill. Today is when we'll really see what lawmakers are willing to stomach -- and more importantly what they are not willing to stomach -- in terms of changes to the Senate farm bill. Today's action comes with the backdrop of a Bush veto threat being issued by Acting USDA Secretary Chuck Conner. An override coming. While Bush is threatening veto on the farm bill, he did veto the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). But both the House and Senate are poised to override that veto, with the House scheduled to vote today and the Senate potentially Wednesday.
