Wrap Up
Overnight price strength. Soybean futures led overnight gains, rising 15 to 17 cents in most contracts. Wheat futures were 10 to 13 cents higher in the most actively traded contracts. Corn futures were 3 to 4 cents higher in overnight trade.
South Korea official on U.S. beef. South Korea's ag minister said that there are no health concerns on U.S. beef and that they stand ready to negotiate broadening terms of trade. He also defended the government's most recent action to suspend quarantine inspections. The two sides talk beef trade Thursday & Friday this week in Korea.
Pricier winter ahead. Heating oil prices are seen up 22% this winter compared to last year and natural gas prices are forecast up 10%, propane up 16%, according to the Energy Information Agency's winter fuels outlook.
In the ring. Former USDA Sec. Mike Johanns is expected to make official today what everyone expects: He's running to be the GOP candidate for the U.S. Senate seat in Nebraska. He exited the top USDA post last month to return to Nebraska.
