Sanderson Farms firms plans for new poultry complex in N.C.
Sanderson Farms Inc. said Monday it is seeking to build a new poultry complex near Goldsboro, N.C. The Laurel, Miss.-based company said in a news release it would invest some $94 million in the new big-bird deboning complex, a consideration first mentioned late last year (See After Kinston, Sanderson eyes deboning plant for expansion, Meatingplace, Dec. 4, 2009.) Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of fiscal 2011 and operations are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2012, the company said. MORE!

Hormel to add canning, double workforce at new plant
Austin, Minn.-based Hormel Foods will add a second shift in May to its new plant making Compleats microwave meals in Dubuque, Iowa and plans to add a line of canned food production by early September, plant manager Mark Zelle told Meatingplace. MORE!
